Sharing a login safely
Some providers only work by signing in with one account. Here is what beemate does with the login you share, and what to do before you share it.
What beemate does with it Encrypted
- The username and password are encrypted before they are stored, with a key kept apart from the database. Nobody at beemate reads them, and they never appear in an email or a notification.
- They are shown only to the co-subscribers you have accepted, on the hive page, for as long as they hold a seat. Someone whose seat ends stops seeing them the same moment.
- You can change the login any time under Manage this hive; every co-subscriber is told there is a new one, without the login itself being sent.
Before you share
- Use a password unique to this service. Never one you use for your email, your bank or any other account. If the provider lets you set a profile PIN, set one on your own profile.
- Keep the account yours. The email address, phone number and payment details on the provider's account stay yours; a co-subscriber needs the login, not the account. Do not share the password to the email address behind it.
- Two-factor codes. If the provider asks for a code on each new sign-in, your co-subscribers will need you to pass it on. Turn it on where the provider lets trusted devices stay signed in, and expect a message the first time each person gets in.
- When somebody leaves, change the password and save the new one in the hive. The people still in are told; the person who left is not.
If something looks wrong
A sign-in you do not recognise, a co-subscriber who changed something, a login that stopped working: change the password first, then tell beemate. Support is a conversation away, and every message is read.
