Terms of use

1. What beemate is

beemate is a place where someone paying for a multi-seat subscription (an owner) can offer the seats they are not using, and where someone else (a matey) can take one. A listing is called a hive.

beemate introduces the two of you and carries the arrangement. It does not supply the subscription itself, and it is not a party to whatever you agree between yourselves.

2. Who operates it

beemate.sg is operated by [OPERATOR NAME], [UEN], with its registered office at [ADDRESS], Singapore. Written notice can be given through the contact form.

This is a placeholder. No company has been incorporated yet. Until one exists there is no legal person on the other side of these terms, which is one of several reasons the service takes no money.

3. Accepting these terms

Creating an account means accepting these terms and the privacy policy as they stand on that day. We record which version you accepted. If you do not accept them, do not create an account.

4. Who may use it

You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. The service is aimed at people in Singapore and prices are in Singapore dollars.

One person, one account. Do not create an account for somebody else or under a name that is not yours.

5. beemate is not affiliated with any provider

beemate is not affiliated with, partnered with, endorsed by or acting for any of the subscription providers named on the site. Their names appear so you can tell which service a hive is about, and for no other reason.

Their terms bind you, not ours. The relationship between you and a provider is governed entirely by the agreement you have with them. Before opening or joining a hive, read their terms and satisfy yourself that what you are about to do is permitted. beemate only lists a service publicly where we believe the provider's own terms allow sharing beyond a single household, but that assessment is ours, it is not advice, and it may be wrong or out of date.

6. Opening a hive

As an owner you confirm that:

• the subscription is yours, paid for by you, and in your name;
• sharing it in the way you propose is permitted by the provider's terms;
• the seats, price and description you publish are accurate;
• you will give accepted mateys the access you promised, promptly, and tell them without delay if it changes or stops working.

You decide who joins, unless you turn on instant approval. You may remove a matey, hold seats back, or delete the hive at any time — a hive you delete takes its conversations with it.

7. Joining a hive

As a matey you confirm that:

• you will use the seat yourself and will not resell it, pass it on, or share access further;
• you will keep any credentials you are given to yourself, and will not change them, change the account settings, or do anything that locks other members out;
• you will leave the hive if you stop using the seat.

You may leave at any time, without notice.

8. Money

No payment is currently possible. No card can be saved and nothing is charged. What follows describes how it is intended to work.

An owner states what the whole plan costs them each month; the price of one seat is that divided by the number of seats. A matey pays the seat price and nothing on top.

beemate's commission comes out of the owner's side: 6% of each seat payment, every month. A hive listed publicly also carries a one-off 10% introduction fee on a new matey's first month, for the introduction. A private hive carries none.

beemate will not hold your money. Payments will be handled by a licensed payment provider that holds and splits the funds itself. Any balance shown to you is a view of that provider's records, not a sum held by beemate.

What you earn from sharing a subscription may be taxable. That is between you and IRAS, and we cannot advise on it.

9. Shared credentials

Where an owner chooses to share a username and password, beemate encrypts them and shows them only to that hive's accepted mateys. We do not check them, and we cannot recover an account with the provider on your behalf.

Sharing credentials is the riskiest way to give access. Use a password unique to that service. Never use one you use anywhere else.

10. What you must not do

• list a service whose terms forbid the sharing you are proposing;
• list a subscription that is not yours, or that you do not pay for;
• ask for or arrange payment outside beemate;
• use the messaging for anything other than the hive it belongs to — no advertising, no spam, no harassment;
• impersonate anyone, or misrepresent who you are;
• scrape, probe, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or to another member's account;
• use the service for anything unlawful.

11. Suspension and closure

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and may remove a hive or a service from the catalogue at any time — in particular if we come to believe a provider's terms do not permit the sharing. Where a service is withdrawn we will tell the members of any affected hive.

You may close your own account at any time by asking us.

12. What we are responsible for

beemate is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and it is currently a preview under active development.

We are not responsible for what happens between an owner and a matey: whether access is given, whether it keeps working, whether a provider closes an account, or what either of you does with the other's details. Nor are we responsible for a provider's decisions about your account with them.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing here affects rights you have under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003 or other Singapore consumer legislation.

13. Your content

What you write — hive descriptions, messages, your profile — stays yours. You give beemate permission to store it and to show it to the people it is meant for, which is what makes the service work at all.

The site itself, its name and its design belong to the operator. Provider names and marks belong to those providers.

14. Personal data

How we handle personal data is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

15. Changes

These terms may change. Material changes will be notified to the address on your account, and the version stamp at the top of this page will change with them. Continuing to use beemate after that means accepting the new version.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction.

If something goes wrong, please write to us first — most things are settled that way. Consumers may also approach the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), or the Small Claims Tribunals for claims within their limits.
